Proposal: archive Commits mailing list

The GitHub service we currently use to deliver emails to the Commits list (https://lists.idrc.ocad.ca/mailman/listinfo/commits) will be deprecated at the end of January. This is described in the following infrastructure JIRA https://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/INFRA-225
Propose for consideration: we no longer need the Commits list and should not spend time on a solution for this. Instead, we should archive the commits list for historical purposes.
Rationale:
1. The commits list was necessary in the SVN days for those who wanted email notification of repository traffic (the list is still described as “Mailing list for all SVN commit notices to the Fluid repository”)
2. GitHub provides various means for those interested in email notifications of repository commits, as described at https://help.github.com/categories/receiving-notifications-about-activity-on-github/
I’m interested in the opinions of others in the community on this: is this list still useful, and should we make effort to finding a substitute for the existing mechanism?
