At today's community meeting we went through and talked at length about the various sites that are hosted at the IDRC (potential candidates to move to static site generation) as well as criteria for selecting the static site generator we will use. The details are up on the wiki.
http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/Static+Site+Generators+Research
Next Steps:
Avtar and Jess to talk to site maintainers about converting the various sites
Perform a "user" test to ascertain the pain points of maintaining a static site with a git based (or simple front end) for those unfamiliar working with git
Coming up with a "spec" for determining when a site should be static or use a CMS. This will be used to determine how to build future sites.
Begin investigation of the various static site generators based on the specified criteria and come up with a recommendation for one to use.
Thanks
Justin

Ideally we should offer a similar experience to those who prefer not to use a text editor and Git client. I’m assuming this isn’t a blocker though, just that certain sites can’t be considered as viable candidates for this task.
