Notes from OpenEd 2015 Vancouver

Hi everyone,

On November 17-20, a few of us from the IDRC (Jutta, Jess, Justin, Alan,
Dana, Anastasia, and I) attended the OpenEd 2015 conference in Vancouver.

We had a space where we and our partners from CAST <http://www.cast.org/>,
BCCampus <http://bccampus.ca/>, CaperBC <https://caperbc.ca/>, and AT-BC
<http://www.at-bc.ca/> were able to engage attendees with assistive
technologies (provided by AT-BC), and discuss with them strategies for
inclusitivity and accessibility of learning content.

Attached is a photo of the space with a large table set up with various ATs
(single switch interface, head tracker, text magnifier, document readers).
At various smaller tables in the space, people are engaged in discussions.

There were many great discussions and sharing of ideas. We have gathered
our reflections and put them into this Wiki page:

For me, I found the challenge of making OERs for areas with
limited/low-bandwidth Internet access with cultural diversity an
interesting issue. I can relate to this problem having been to Nigeria for
the Decapod project - the electricity frequently drops, and the network is
often congested and unreliable (it took us over 12 hours to download Ubuntu
12.04 dependencies).
