Question about guard listeners

Thanks for the toggleButton review this afternoon - it's great to get feedback.

I'm currently working on refactoring the captions model as we discussed in the channel last night, and I have a question about guard listeners.

Guard listeners receive an applier object, but it isn't a full applier: it's a "bareApplier" with only the change request functions. Why is it not the full applier, e.g. including the model?
