Hi all,

Just sending a follow-up email to confirm that the equipment move will be going ahead as scheduled. OCAD's network administrators will also be upgrading part of the IDRC's data centre infrastructure on Wednesday morning; this will allow faster connections between the servers we host. I will send one last email on the 21st once everything has been moved.

Thanks,

Avtar

Hello everyone,

Please be advised of the following maintenance window and notify anyone who you think might be affected:

* Maintenance Window: Wednesday December 21st, 2011, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM EST
* Affected Device(s) or Service(s): All production equipment hosted at OCAD's data centre
* Affected Users: Everyone
* Service Impacting: Yes - four hours of scheduled downtime

Details:

This maintenance notice is being issued due to a planned equipment move from the data centre located at 105 McCaul Street to a newer facility in the main OCAD building at 100 McCaul Street. All services offered by the IDRC (websites, mailing lists, database servers, etc.) will be offline during this move.

Please note that this outage will not affect internet connectivity at the 205 Richmond Street office. Any services offered by OCAD, email for example, and external organizations like Google or Github will still be available for use by anyone at the office.

Unfortunately time slots available for this move were limited due to the upcoming holiday break, which is why this task is being performed during office hours. A notice will be sent to the everyone at lists.idrc.ocad.ca<mailto:everyone at lists.idrc.ocad.ca> and fluid-work at fluidproject.org<mailto:fluid-work at fluidproject.org> mailing lists once the move is complete and services are available once again.

The new data centre will:

* supply the IDRC infrastructure with robust and stable power
* provide more than adequate cooling for current and new hardware
* offer more capacity for expansion into new server cabinets

Colin, Bert, and I will be meeting members of OCAD's I.T. department on Friday morning to finalize this task. I will send out a follow-up email to the two lists mentioned above on Friday afternoon confirming the move and provide further details.

If have any questions, or concerns with regards to this maintenance please free to contact me agill at ocadu.ca<mailto:agill at ocadu.ca>

Thank you,

Avtar
