Quick follow up.
I upgraded to Aptana 2.0 and have had no particular problems. I have noticed a slight speed increase ... the new version is better optimized for Mac OS X.
Nothing seems to be missing, but then again I have not noticed any particularly earth-shattering new features either.

I switched to the also free KomodoEdit ( http://www.activestate.com/komodo_edit/ ) about 6 months ago, and I am happy so far, realising that I wasn't using the extra functionality of Aptana, and needing something more lightweight but with good code completion and customisability.
