Hi all,
Just back from a successful UCamp at JA-Sig and have some ideas to
share. We have the Sakai Design meeting this evening at 5pm EST/ 2pm
PST and so this may be a topic there.
Tomorrow Sakai UCamp Planning Meeting: - Thursday, November 15th,
1pm PST/ 4pm EST
> ** This meeting can go over a few minutes as most people were open
> for the 2pm PST / 5pm EST time slot as well. I have to leave by
> 5:30pm EST.
** This time seemed to work for the most people. Feel free to join
late if you need to as well. Or email ideas if you cannot attend.
General Thoughts & Suggestions:
- UCamp is a "camp" so it should be interactive, educational and fun
(think summer camp with a UCD focus).
- if you want to do a talk, make it interactive (have the group do a
mini UX walkthrough in small groups or contextual inquiry). People
learn by doing.
- make a "talk" into more of a "workshop" with some small exercises
prepared ahead of time if possible
Format:
From our recent brainstorming talk last week we received a lot of
great ideas for the UCamp. And came up with a basic format of talks/
workshops in the morning focused around more advanced UCD topics (UX
walk-throughs, contextual inquiries, etc) and the afternoon
collaborating with the developers on a project.
Draft Timeline;
8:30 - 8:45 - greetings and coffee - everyone
8:45 am - Welcome to the Sakai UCamp and Overview - Barbara
9am - 12 - various talks/workshops about UCD topics - Interested
presenters needed
12:30-1:30 pm - lunch
1:30 pm - 4:30 pm - collaborative (Sprint) - Developers + Designers
4:30pm - 4:45pm - Wrap up
Collaborative (Sprint) Topic:
- Colin has a good idea for the sprint project, namely redesigning
the Preferences tool for Sakai and tying in some of the work for
Fluid More Tabs component. Colin will include a more definitive
description at meeting.
Conclusion:
- If you cannot make today's meeting (as many are traveling or out of
town) we will recap any new details for the Sakai UCamp at tomorrow's
meeting.
cheers
Barbara
