Hi all,
At the recent Sakai conference there was BOF about Integrating
multiple LMSs into some type of portal view. This work had
originated at the JA-Sig Unconference in November. There is
continued interest in this project.
An overview of the problem area was discussed. Followed by how to
move this project forward because there is a lot of interest and
value here. There is an upcoming JA-Sig conference in April where it
was felt by the group that having more developed use cases or maybe
wireframes would be a good next step.
The biggest question with everyone's busy schedule is who can act as
a lead on this topic? Is there someone out in the communities who
might want to lead this? Jay has offered to organize a page to host
the continued work.
Here's a brief summary of the problem area. I feel after a few days
I've forgotten a few things. I know Andrew had a good starting
design at a URL that I don't have. Please send to list if you have it.
thanks,
Barbara

LMS in Portal
Problem to solve
- many LMS (or home grown web sites) required to cover all their classes
- required diferent plces for each
-need comprehensive view
- take longer, harder to remember
- users need a sense of place and where they are in the process
Needs
- one stop / get there
- only remember one place
- summary of relevant info from LMS (let me know when I need to go
there)
** tests coming up, dry cleaning, dates, etc
** schedule
** assignments due
** announcements
- Not to have to think about where I need to go for different courses
Requirements
Connect to
- sakai
- blackboard
- home grown web sites
Show me my schedule
- changes over time
- one location and consistent format to see homework, tests, etc
- show's available for study group
- shared space for study materials
- schedule group meetings/events
